So if you are ever not feeling well, stay home and watch a local network, you get messages (commercials) to the effect of “ been in a wreck?   Where is your check?”  Yes, personal injury attorneys.  Comments on this part of the profession will be withheld for another day.

It’s just as hard to find a good attorney as it is to find the right puppy for your family.
Yes, I did just compare picking a pup to finding the right lawyer.
There are many ways in which one needs an attorney.  Need a will, trust, or estate planning?  Worse, involved in a probable litigation matter?   Buying a house?  Business needs: buying or selling, employee/employer issues, reviewing business contracts, business litigation, and much more.

So, other than my neighbor or co-worker who worked with John Doe, the attorney, how do we choose?  Here are suggested criteria and methodology that could help you:

  • How many of the same matters has the attorney handled
    • How recent?
    • How successful?
    • What were the results?
    • What were the costs?

  • If it is a matter involving litigation:
    • What is the attorney’s track record?
    • The biggest amount of matter defended?
    • The biggest verdict tried to a jury?

  • What is the plan?
    • Do the attorney and you have the same goals and processes to achieve those goals?

  • Cost
    • What will this cost you?
    • Are there any other concerns?

I have tried more than 100 cases to verdict.  I have tried approximately 50 jury trials without a loss.  I have tried a case (Commercial litigation) where my client’s investment of less than $250k resulted in a verdict including interest in excess of 3 million dollars.
